DESCRIPTION:The History of Help Certification Program\n\n05/07/26 10:00 AM EST\n - 05/07/26 02:15 PM EST\Description:\nThis certification series will explore the historical foundations of service and philanthropy while providing moments for intentional, deep self-reflection.  The history of volunteerism in the United States is rooted in conquest, colonization, white saviorism, and systems of control.\n\nThis series encourages participants to learn, unlearn and relearn how to confront dominant narratives of “help,” name how modern volunteerism often reenacts harm, and explore liberatory models of service grounded in justice, mutual aid, and cultural truth.\n\nEach session offers historical context, real-world tools, and powerful frameworks to challenge the status quo and reimagine what service can look like. This curated space is designed for participants to wrestle with hard truths, current state reflections, and ways to activate real change.\n\nParticipants are expected to complete weekly homework assignments, participate in real time feedback, and utilize the series toolkit\n\nWhat’s Included:\n\nFour interactive sessions that include a hands-on Learning Lab  \n\nFull digital Participant Workbook with all tools, worksheets, and prompts\n\nCertification in Reimagining Volunteerism from an Equity Lens\n \n\nWho is this geared towards:\n\n • Volunteer coordinators and managers\n\n • DEI practitioners and trainers\n\n • Executive directors and nonprofit leaders\n\n • Community organizers and mutual aid facilitators\n\n • White allies committed to anti-racist service\n \n\nFacilitator: Brianna Miller*\n\n\nYou will leave with new ideas, useful tools and a Certification in Reimagining Volunteerism from an Equity Lens from MAVA. \n\n\nTo receive certification, participants must:\n\n • Attend all training sessions (if you miss session, make up materials will be provided)\n\n • Complete at least one worksheet or tool\n\n • Submit post-series self-reflection or mini-audit\n \n\n\nYour registration will allow you to attend all four days in the series. Attending the History of Help Training Series can be counted toward obtaining or renewing your Certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA).\n\nTraining runs from 9:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. (Central Time) each of the four days.\n\nDay One - Thursday, May 7, 2026\n\nDay Two - Thursday, May 14, 2026\n \nDay Three - Thursday, May 21, 2026\n\nDay Four - Thursday, May 28, 2026
