Recovery & Inclusion: Why Creating Recovery-Friendly Volunteer Programs Benefits Everyone |
|
|
Presented by Adrienne Yoe, CVA & Jaclyn Wilmot, CVA
August 7, 2 PM Eastern
“The opposite of addiction is connection.” Volunteerism is a mechanism for building a more just, equitable, and inclusive society. Many individuals in recovery from Substance Use Disorder (SUD) utilize volunteerism to create healthy connections to leave the isolation caused by SUD.
With over 40 million Americans struggling with SUD and about 9% of Americans in recovery, failing to make space for those in recovery within our volunteer programs leaves behind the time, talent, and experiences of millions. Learning Objectives
Why and how to build recovery-friendly volunteer programs and gain buy-in for these programs.
Why they should deliberately include those in recovery -How they can create recovery-inclusive programs The tools that will be needed to ensure your volunteer program is inclusive |

COP Spotlight: July & August Book Club Selection: Big Feelings by Liz Fosslien and Mollie West Duffy
We all experience unwieldy feelings. But between our emotion-phobic society and the debilitating uncertainty of modern times, we usually don't know how to talk about what we're going through, much less handle it. Over the past year, Liz Fosslien and Mollie West Duffy’s online community has laughed and cried about productivity guilt, pandemic anxiety, and Zoom fatigue. You’ll learn: • How to end the cycle of intrusive thoughts brought on by regret, and instead use this feeling as a compass for making decisions • How to identify what’s behind your anger and communicate it productively, without putting people on the defensive
• Why we might be suffering from perfectionism even if we feel far from perfect, and how to detach your self-worth from what you do
For future sessions, book choices will be voted on by the entire group and cover a variety of topics ranging from leadership initiatives, empowerment tools and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in addition to other topics upon submission. |
