President's Message - Michelle Raymer, CVA |
This month we’ll be opening up applications for the 2024-2026 Board of Directors. There aren’t superlatives to describe how rewarding it has been to learn alongside some of the most impressive people I know and be a part of building a community dedicated to the profession of volunteer engagement. I have gotten so much more out of volunteering with AL!VE than any other professional development I’ve participated in. We encourage self-nominations, so I hope you’ll thoughtfully consider Board service. If it’s not the right timing for you yet, consider a committee or a project-based role. We have a lot of goals for the coming year, so it’s a great time to get involved.
Michelle Also, if I leave one thing as my legacy with AL!VE I won’t be disappointed if it’s getting t-shirts to represent the profession. Not sorry that I am way more excited about these than is reasonable! See the article below. |

September AL!VE Academy: Recruitment Isn't the Answer |
|
|
Presented by Rob Jackson September 20, 10 am Eastern
Everyone knows recruitment can be tricky now, post lockdowns etc.. But the answer isn’t simply trying harder to recruit. We need better, more flexible, opportunities that fit with people’s interests, motivations and availabilities. We need a culture in our organizations that welcomes and nurtures the potential of volunteers, not one that seems them as being nice but not essential. This isn’t just down to the Volunteer Engagement Professional - everyone needs to embrace it. In short we need to see change in our organizations. This session will explore what needs to happen and how we as leaders can get the ball rolling.

This year's theme is 'Helping Others Help'
Volunteer Managers change lives — both the lives of volunteers themselves and of those served by well-led volunteers. It is a life-changing profession. Volunteer managers provide the leadership and direction that allows people to build a good and just society and to mend the social fabric. Without professional leadership, people’s time, talents and efforts could be wasted. Plan now to recognize your peers and yourself. We have a downloadable postcard you can print and send! Check out the website link below for more ideas to celebrate yourself and your colleagues! |

Your Input Needed For Research Study to Investigate the Job Journey* of Volunteer Administrators Allison Russell, Assistant Professor of Public and Nonprofit Management at the University of Texas at Dallas and doctoral research assistant, Kayla Parker, are conducting a research study to investigate the 'job journey'* of volunteer administrators.
We seek to examine what leads individuals to enter the volunteer administration profession and their subsequent professional development experiences in the field. The goal of this research study is to improve our understanding of the volunteer administration profession through an exploration of the perspectives of volunteer administrators.
We want to learn directly from volunteer administrators through in-depth virtual interviews, and we are hoping that you will consider participating. During the interview, we will ask you to share your personal narrative of your journey into the volunteer administration profession.
We will ask you questions about your educational experience, professional background, career goals and motivations, and professional development and training. Your time and expertise are valued and appreciated by the research team.
We encourage you to read this information before you determine your desire to participate. If you are interested in participating, please click on the links to the right.
Thank you, and all the best, Allison Russell, Ph.D. Kayla Parker *Note: due to spam filters, we replaced the actual phrase (see the graphic to the right - with job journey) |
