President's Message - Michelle Raymer, CVA |
|
|
I am rarely an early adopter when it comes to anything having to do with technology. It’s usually something I begrudgingly agree to get after significant pressure from friends and family. But even I am coming to see that there are a lot of opportunities to leverage technology to cut out busywork and have more time to focus on the people centered work. That’s why I’m excited about this year’s Hybrid Conference, and the opportunity to learn more about tools that can help our field leverage these new advances while not losing sight of the importance of relationships in our work. Whether you also border on being a technophobe, or are the first to try any new app/gadget/system, I hope you’ll participate and bring your perspective to the conversation!

September AL!VE Academy: Recruitment Isn't the Answer |
|
|
Presented by Rob Jackson September 20, 10 am Eastern
Everyone knows recruitment can be tricky now, post lockdowns etc.. But the answer isn’t simply trying harder to recruit. We need better, more flexible, opportunities that fit with people’s interests, motivations and availabilities. We need a culture in our organizations that welcomes and nurtures the potential of volunteers, not one that seems them as being nice but not essential. This isn’t just down to the Volunteer Engagement Professional - everyone needs to embrace it. In short we need to see change in our organizations. This session will explore what needs to happen and how we as leaders can get the ball rolling.

Class of 2024-2027 Board Member Nominations
Deadline Approaching!
Hi, I'm Cathy Thoma, AL!VE's President Elect and chair of this year's Nominating Committee. As Michelle previously mentioned, I too, have had the most rewarding experience by serving on the AL!VE board and in particular, in a leadership role. I have grown both personally and professionally and have had the unique opportunity to engage with volunteer leaders across the nation. How amazing is that?
If you are interested in joining us on our mission, consider applying for a board position. We held an informational webinar on August 25; view the slides or watch the recording for more information!
The nomination form is available now. Please direct any inquiries to myself or the Nominating Committee here. |

AL!VE Standards: Requesting Feedback & Volunteers for The Standards Subcomittee
The AL!VE Standards for Organizational Volunteer Engagement have been posted on our website for more than one year! Check out more of the Standards and action steps here.
Have you looked over them? Have you used them in your work? Were the Standards helpful? We are looking for feedback from AL!VE members about these Standards. Whether you've used the Standards or not, please take this very short survey.
The AL!VE Standards are meant to be a living document, one that changes to reflect the trends in the field and the needs of Volunteer Engagement Professionals. The Standards Subcommittee has a lot of work to do to keep this living document up to date, relevant, and useful for all VEPs. We are looking for Subcommittee members who are interested in helping with this important effort. If you are, please contact Emilie at ebrometbauer@gmail.com or Jordanya at jordanyareeves@gmail.com.

| International Volunteer Managers Day is Coming November 5 Every year, our profession celebrates YOU! This year's theme is 'Helping Others Help'
Volunteer Managers change lives — both the lives of volunteers themselves and of those served by well-led volunteers. It is a life-changing profession. Volunteer managers provide the leadership and direction that allows people to build a good and just society and to mend the social fabric. Without professional leadership, people’s time, talents and efforts could be wasted.
Plan now to recognize your peers and yourself. We have a downloadable postcard you can print and send! Check out the website link below for more ideas to celebrate yourself and your colleagues! |

|
| Member Survey Coming Soon!
Our annual member survey will be emailed to you later this month. We value your feedback and input, and every year we are able to make changes and/or improvements to member benefits, the website, and association policies and procedures. We ARE member driven!
This year’s survey results will be presented at our Annual meeting December 6. |

Does Your Organization Need a Back to School Physical for Strategic Volunteer Engagement?
Have you wished that there was a way to get a cross-functional, organization-wide assessment on what your organization is doing well and what your areas of opportunity are… now imagine that this “physical” or diagnostic also helps you prioritize those area of opportunity and identify tangible ways to make improvements. Well the doctor is in and you are in luck!
As the National Service Enterprise Program Administrator AL!VE collaborates with the RGK Center for Philanthropy & Community Service at UT Austin to administer the Index for Volunteer Engagement providing facilitation of the diagnostic and a debrief session.
We know that not every organization is ready to go through an organization-wide change management program like Service Enterprise, so that is why we are offering for organization to be able to just do the IVE Diagnostic and Debrief Service; this includes the IVE diagnostic, report, and customized interpretation from a Service Enterprise Trainer.
Contact Kayla Paulson, AL!VE’s Service Enterprise Administrator to be connected with a Training & Implementation Partner or learn how your organization can facilitate the IVE. |
