The States for Service Coalition, the policy arm of America’s Service Commissions, is organizing an organizational sign-on letter to request Congress appropriates $30 million for the Volunteer Generation Fund (VGF) in FY25. Organizations that seek to join the advocacy effort should complete this online form. Only the organization’s name and service area will appear on the letter.
Last year, over 150 organizations signed on in support. We hope to reach over 200 organizations this year.
VGF is the only federal-level volunteer engagement funding, and it has tremendous opportunity to expand to support volunteer infrastructure throughout the country. However, due to the current level of annual appropriations, the full potential of VGF has yet to come to fruition. The Volunteer Generation Fund was originally intended to be implemented in two distinct fashions — one being formula allocations to service commissions to reach broader beneficiaries and the second being through a competitive application process to reach individual organizations, including schools, local nonprofits, and more.
The appropriations request of $30 million annually should enable every service commission to access VGF to support volunteer engagement in their state/territory and have a robust pool of funding for the competitive process for nonprofits and other eligible entities.
Deadline: Friday, June 14, 5pm ET
The deadline to sign on in support of the letter is 5pm ET on Friday, June 14 in order to have the letter ready for when congressional appropriators will begin FY2025 discussions.
