Mar 10, 2026: March Alive Academy: The Value of Multiple Interpretations

In this month's AL!VE Academy, Brittany will share what she's learned while using the KLC framework over the past 10+ years as a leadership coach. Then she'll focus on the value of making multiple interpretations. No matter what you call it - storytelling, reframing, rebranding, or even holding space - generating multiple interpretations reduces blind spots while tackling community challenges. This life hack has served her well over the past year as ServMO Executive Director - excited to revisit the value of multiple interpretations in this virtual, 90 minute presentation.

Learning Outcomes

1) The audience will be able to describe what it means to generate multiple interpretations.
2) The audience will be able to identify if a statement is an observation or interpretation.
3) Audience members will identify at least one area where they'd like to explore multiple interpretations.

Brittany is a certified Leadership Coach through the Kansas Leadership Center, bringing more than a decade of experience in coaching, facilitation, and nonprofit leadership. She began her career as a youth facilitator and later discovered a passion for one‑on‑one leadership coaching, which has since shaped her approach as an executive director. Brittany has guided nearly 100 leaders through deep, strategic, and transformational coaching conversations. Her work centers on adaptive leadership, lifelong learning, and helping people make meaningful progress on their toughest challenges.

The Speaker:

Elizabeth Rachchh, CVA, passionately believes that successful volunteer programs are built on strong relationships. Rachchh leverages her strengths to foster open communication and build trust. She currently is the Program Manager at the Alzheimer's Association, leading volunteers in education, awareness and support throughout the southern and western regions of Georgia. With five years of experience in volunteer management, she has worked with state and national organizations and is also a lifelong volunteer. Rachchh actively serves as Board Secretary for the Georgia Association for Volunteer Administrators (GAVA), where she continues to contribute her leadership skills. In 2024, Rachchh was recognized with the Emerging Leader Award from AL!VE. She holds a Master’s in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from the University of Georgia and earned her Certified Volunteer Administrator (CVA) credential in October 2023. We all encounter ethical dilemmas in our daily work with and for community, but rarely do organizations focus on ethics related to volunteer engagement. This session provides an opportunity for practitioners to understand the difference between personal, organizational and professional ethics. The core values and principles identified by the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration (CCVA) will be shared. Participants will learn a process for ethical decision-making that can be applied in any situation, and then practice this using real-life scenarios related to volunteers. Finally, several specific strategies will be offered for increasing awareness of ethics within an organization and helping both volunteers and staff become more effective at handling ethical dilemmas.

She previously led Volunteer Houston, managing a volunteer recruitment platform, a corporate engagement program, disaster volunteer coordination at the system level, and facilitating the Volunteer Engagement Training Program for nonprofit professionals. Brooke has designed a state AmeriCorps program and VISTA workplans, authored and advised national training courses. She currently serves on the Citizens’ Environmental Coalition Board of Directors. We have many great speakers this year, including Traci Lato-Smith and Amber Melanie Smith. The workshop with Traci will include time to work on your own volunteer engagement, be ready to brainstorm. We are excited for our Thursday evening social to network, raffles, and more! Taking place virtually on May 13-14, the 2026 Virginia Volunteerism Summit is Virginia’s leading event for organizations and individuals making a difference in their communities. Hosted by Serve Virginia and the Virginia Service Foundation, this year’s Summit will re-energize your passion for service through opportunities to connect with peers and learn from experts in the field!

Keynote speakers include Nicole R. Smith, Executive Director of the Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement, and Cliff Fleet, president and CEO of Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. In addition to these inspiring keynote sessions, attendees will participate in multiple hands-on workshops each day as well as virtual networking opportunities and resource-sharing. Sessions will cover everything from Volunteer Management 101 to more advanced conversations about innovations in volunteerism and service, the potential of power partnerships, and more.

Attending this conference can be applied towards hours needed for professional development requirements for initial CVA Certification or CVA Renewal. The CVA (Certified in Volunteer Administration) is the only internationally recognized credential in the field of volunteer administration. Meghan has a passion for the nonprofit sector and public service. She has participated in three AmeriCorps Programs (Vista, State, and National). She has over a decade of volunteer engagement professional experience. Meghan is a certified CCVA and is a graduate of the ALiVE Bootcamp Series. She has served as Vice President of DOVIA-LA and currently serves on the DOVIA-LA Advisory Committee.

Meghan is an alumna of UCLA, graduating with a B.A. double major in American Literature and History with a minor in LGBT Studies. She is a proud and rare Angeleno with roots in the Harbor area. Behind the scenes, Meghan enjoys spending time with her cats, attending live music shows, and visiting National Parks.

We will start out by discussing Evaluations. We will also take the time to see if anyone has any burning questions or issues that the rest of the group will be able to assist with. This COP is great for anyone who works in animal shelters, zoos and aquariums, animal conservation or rescue organizations, or those who are interested in the volunteers who help with the welfare and well being of animals.
