May AL!VE Academy 2 PM E: Elevating Leaders of Volunteers: It's time to strategize advocacy presented by Meridian Swift

Elevating Leaders of Volunteers: It’s time to strategize advocacy

Wednesday,  May 6 - 2 PM Eastern

How can we, Leaders of volunteers advocate for change? How can we be change-makers and elevate volunteers, volunteerism and our profession? We can use turbulent times to embrace our vision, plan how to initiate change and take the opportunity to strategize our approach. Through examples and tools, in this webinar, we will explore the ways to be change-makers and successfully craft an advocacy strategy for today and the future.

About our Presenter:
From Meridian's website,  volunteerplaintalk.com:

I have spent over 25 years in volunteer management, have held the CVA certification (http://cvacert.org/) since 2005, have presented on the state and national level, have written for several publications on volunteer management and a few years ago, wrote a book on volunteer management (the Volunteer Shelf Life) which came about because heck, volunteers leave for lots of reasons and I was tired of blaming myself every time a volunteer “quit.”
For the last several years, I have been researching ways to elevate volunteer management and volunteerism and have compiled all that research into my latest book, (The Disruptive Volunteer Manager). It’s time we, volunteer managers are given the professional status we’ve earned in the non-profit sector.

This webinar is free for AL!VE members; $25 for the general public (you will be billed).  Consider joining AL!VE as a member and your membership dues can be deferred for 90 days!

COVID-19 Survey : Initial Results presented by Erin Spink of Spinktank

May 13, 1:30 PM Eastern.
Are you wondering how Covid-19 is impacting other leaders of volunteers? Would you like to hear directly from volunteers about what they need and want from you? Join Erin Spink of spinktank to get the initial results of global research to help you navigate these challenging times.
Erin Spink of Spinktank presents initial findings from the international survey launched in early April.

Free;  register via zoom link below.  THIS WEBINAR WILL BE RECORDED; IF YOU REGISTER AND CANNOT ATTEND, YOU WILL RECEIVE A LINK TO VIEW.

Erin Spink’s interest in volunteers started at the age of six when she pronounced that while it was

wrong to eat animals, hamburgers at McDonald’s came from “volunteer cows” and therefore an exception could be made. Fascinated by the subject, she completed a Certificate with Distinction in Volunteer Program Management, followed by an M.A. (Leadership) where she submitted the first-ever academic research quantifying the concept of “volunteer engagement”. Spink’s academic and thought- leadership work has since been published around the world. Erin had the honour of serving on the Board for PAVRO for five years, including two as President, during which she lead the association to sit at key decision-making tables such as presenting to the Ontario Minister for Economic Development. For the last several years, Erin has volunteered as the Training Designs Editor for e- Volunteerism. Recently, Erin was recognized with the 2017 recipient of the Linda Buchanan Outstanding Leader of Volunteers award for her contributions to the profession. After 20 years working in Volunteer Engagement, she has changed her mind and no longer believes in eating volunteers.

Communities of Practice- Rural Communities 2 PM Eastern, 11 AM Pacific

Rural Communities of Practice (COP)
Volunteer Engagement Professionals in small towns face unique challenges and opportunities that aren’t always addressed by advice intended for city-based audiences. There are also fewer opportunities to connect with others doing similar work across the country. That’s what led to the creation of AL!VE’s Community of Practice (CoP) for volunteer engagement professionals in rural communities.

For any questions about this, please contact Rebeccah Verhoff-Kiss, COP facilitator
