Join your peers for discussions for those who manage food banks, hunger organizations, or nutrition programs.  This COP is facilitated by Christina Basey, CVA of Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana.  This COP will meet every month on the first Tuesday of the month @ 3 PM Eastern.

Transportation COP Noon Central, 1 PM Eastern

This is the meeting for the  AL!VE Transportation Community of Practice.  This meeting is open for AL!VE members and all volunteer engagement professionals (first one is free, the subsequent will be for members only).

The call will last one hour and will focus specifically on volunteer programs with transportation as a volunteer role.

Book Club COP - The Power of Moments

2022 AL!VE Book Club COP - The book club begins May 9, 2022 and runs for seven weeks.  This discussion group is designed for those who can attend all sessions, not on a drop in basis and registration will close May 9.   The book clubwill be facilitated by Darlene Laird, CVA, AL!VE Board Member and Skilled Volunteer Strategy and Engagement Manager for Habitat for Humanity International.

The Power of Moments: Why Certain Experiences Have Extraordinary Impact by Chip Heath & Dan Heath is a book discussion COP and is open to all AL!VE   members who value the opportunity to continuously learn and develop their knowledge around volunteer management topics.
 
The book “explores why certain brief experiences can jolt us and elevate us and change us – and how we can learn to create such extraordinary moments in our life and work.”  We will reflect upon ways we can use the use the elements of defining moments to create meaningful volunteer experiences and with an eye toward our rapidly changing and more tech-dependent world.
Participation in the book club offers members the following opportunities:
  • Learn new concepts from people outside of their organization and think about how to apply them in their volunteer management work. 
  • Learn from within as they meet and connect with other colleagues and share their perspective on a diverse set of topics .
  • Build camaraderie and teamwork among other AL!VE members.
  • Create shared language that make the application of the ideas easier in our work.
It is recommended that participants read the book in its entirety before the first meeting and revisit chapters to take part in the bi-weekly discussion. Each participant will be responsible for purchasing the book on their own. 

The COP schedule is based on reading chapters of the book and discussing those chapters for one hour according to the bi-weekly meeting schedule below.  Dates for the discussions are (all times 1 PM E)

Health Care COP Meeting Noon Eastern

This is an AL!VE Communities of Practice for those involved in managing volunteers or programs in health care settings such as hospitals, hospice, Blood Banks, Health care facilities, long-term health centers, etc.  Health care can have some unique situations, requirements, and environments for volunteers!  Join your colleagues in discussion about your questions, situations, needs, and share your experiences with others as well.  Let’s support each other!

Early Childhood Education COP

Early Childhood Education Programs such as Head Start,  Being a volunteer manager for Early Childhood Education is great- who doesn’t want to rock babies?  Being in a category with young children and government regulations there are certain unique challenges for volunteers, such as Level 2 background Checks, In-kind donations, many trainings, and long placement times.  This COP group will be a chance to network, share expertise, ask questions, and solve problems with your peers. 
 
Our meeting will be on Monday, July 18, @ 2 PM Eastern. We will choose future dates at this meeting.

Rural Programs COP (managing programs in Rural or Frontier Communities)

Rural Community of Practice 
Volunteer Engagement Professionals in small towns face unique challenges and opportunities that aren’t always addressed by advice intended for city-based audiences. There are also fewer opportunities to connect with others doing similar work across the country. That’s what led to the creation of AL!VE’s Community of Practice (CoP) for volunteer engagement professionals in rural communities.

Parks & Recreation COP

AL!VE Parks & Recreation Community of Practice

The Parks & Recreation Lunch and Learn COP is designed to include a broad range of topics regarding urban and rural parks, botanical gardens, parks, and nature preserves. The objective of this COP is to connect volunteer engagement professionals within these organizations to share resources and best practices.

This informal venue encourages open discussions for anyone seeking or offering advice in tackling the unique challenges facing volunteer engagement professionals in the Parks & Rec field. Bring your lunch/brunch and beverage! If you're not sure if you fit with us, please join us!

Emergency Response Volunteer Programs COP

Emergency Response Volunteer Programs COP
Join in the conversation about volunteers programs that manages volunteers who respond during an emergency.  This is a very broad range from citizen corps, Red Cross, government, state, federal and non-profit.  Share success and struggles during blue skies, gray skies and black skies.  How to keep your volunteers engaged year around when things are (enter Q word here).  Between meetings, share burning questions or share resources on the Emergency Response Volunteer Programs message board here https://mms.volunteeralive.org/members/forum/board_list.php (Must be signed in to Member Log In).  This is where we can share best practices, ask questions, brag, vent and connect.
