Take the next step in your career as a leader of volunteers and become certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA).

Leaders in non-profit organizations and community groups increasingly understand that volunteers can be a critical resource for delivering on a mission. Effective people management and community engagement is imperative – whether they be paid or unpaid. As a result, employers expect that those individuals tasked with mobilizing and coordinating volunteer engagement demonstrate a thorough knowledge of effective practices and an understanding of how to apply that knowledge in support of real-world organizational priorities.

Certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA) is an international professional certification in the field of volunteer resources management

In this session, you will learn about the CCVA, why certification may be right to you, how the exam is created, what the application, preparation, and certification process is, and when you will be ready. 

The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace book discussion COP open to all AL!VE members who value the opportunity to continuously learn and develop their knowledge around volunteer management topics.
 
The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace applies the love language concept to the workplace. This book helps supervisors and managers effectively communicate appreciation and encouragement to their employees, resulting in higher levels of job satisfaction, healthier relationships between managers and employees, and decreased cases of burnout.
 
Participation in the group offers members the following opportunities:

• learn new concepts from people outside of their organization and think about how to apply them in their volunteer management work
• learn from within as they meet and connect with other colleagues and share their perspective on a diverse set of topics
• build camaraderie and teamwork among other Al!ve members
• create shared language that make the application of the ideas easier in our work

This virtual Community of Practice supports volunteer engagement professionals managing programs in and across rural communities. These monthly peer-to-peer sessions address some of the challenges that come with operating in geographic areas with lower population numbers and that are located outside of more suburban and urban areas. Members use these sessions to troubleshoot issues, to give and receive support, and to share strategies, best practices, and resources for effective volunteer program management.

COP's are an exclusive AL!VE member benefit.  Anyone is welcome to attend the first COP meeting, but after the first meeting we ask you become a member.  Learn more here. 

• Demonstrate how older adults are gaining social connectivity and new skills via virtual platforms
• Review approaches to assist older adults with limited technology skills and/or financial resources
• Share or Identify at least two hands-on practices to help build our age-friendly volunteer management tool box

Bio:
Paul Iarrobino is a community activist, speaker, and documentarian with over three decades of
gerontology experience. For the past few years, he developed a virtual framework for
community members to safely connect during the pandemic.

Paul added “author” to his
storytelling wheelhouse with the release of his first book, COVIDOLOGY: Sharing Life Lessons
from Behind the Mask. The vision for this anthology was sparked by these weekly virtual social
support calls. He was inspired to create a new body of work that featured everyday first-time
storytellers navigating the pandemic and learning about themselves and each other during an
ever-changing landscape.

For generations, engaging volunteers has been a critical strategic element that communities use to solve problems. The pandemic disrupted society’s reliance on volunteers. Yes, disruption can be devastating, it can also release us from the tyranny of doing things “the way we’ve always done them.” Disruption invites us to revisit, rethink, and reinvent the way we achieve our missions.

Our featured presenter, Beth Steinhorn, will share stories of organizations that unlocked their potential in the face of disruption. She will also share the lessons these organizations learned, which you, too, can apply, regardless of what the future holds. The program will also be a preview of the new book, Transforming Disruption to Impact: Rethinking Volunteer Engagement for a Rapidly Changing World, featuring co-authors Beth Steinhorn, Phyllis Segal and Craig Young. Craig Young is a member of the Encore Network Leadership Council and is founder and executive director of Inspiring Service.

Attendees will:

• Explore the landscape of disruption, including issues of ageism, which affect volunteer engagement and nonprofit operations
• Hear exemplary stories of organizations that engaged volunteers with great impact in recent years.
• Glean lessons from nonprofit leaders who invested in staff and volunteers instead of slashing budgets during turbulent times
• Consider how to rethink impact and how to measure it in your organization
• Learn more about the importance of intergenerational strategies in volunteerism
