Recent Research Study

Presented by David Thorne, Ed. D.

This session explores a recent study on volunteer administrators in the United States.
Results show differences and similarities across volunteer administration groups.
Participants will learn the top challenges facing volunteer administrators along with
common management practices. Participants will also have an opportunity to reflect and
share the top challenges they’re facing while examining, exploring similarities and
differences across groups. The session will help administrators understand how their
context may influence how they should best lead volunteers.
- Explore the top challenges facing volunteer administrators today.
- Find out what challenges are context specific and what challenges are universal.
- Discover the most applied management practices.
- Learn how “context matters” when applying management practices.

About our presenter:
David currently lives in Cleveland, OH. with his wife and three boys. Most nights you
can find him on a soccer field coaching. He developed a passion for effective volunteer
management while helping start two growing churches in the city. These churches work
closely with local schools, police, government, and other nonprofits to address
community concerns. He holds a masters in practical theology, counseling,
management and leadership and has recently earned a doctorate in leadership studies.
His research focuses on effective volunteer leadership. David presently works at
Missional Marketing helping churches and nonprofits grow their online presence.
