The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace book discussion COP open to all AL!VE members who value the opportunity to continuously learn and develop their knowledge around volunteer management topics.

The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace applies the love language concept to the workplace. • build camaraderie and teamwork among other Al!ve members
  • create shared language that make the application of the ideas easier in our work
It is recommended that participants read the book in its entirety before the first meeting and revisit chapters to take part in the bi-weekly discussion. Each participant will be responsible for purchasing the book on their own.  Please try to purchase the version of the book with copyright 2019.  It is important to purchase the book new because there is a code for an on-line Motivating by Appreciation (MBA) inventory assessment that you will take.

This is the volunteer management conference presented by AL!VE, Better Impact, and VMPC (Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada).  Now in its eighth year, this year's topic will focus on the impact of  data.  Everyone is being expected to take advantage of data, no matter what their size, mission, or budget. Decision makers want organizations to use data to show their value beyond what the financials show. But it’s more than that.  It’s also knowing what data is important and telling the story behind the data that really matters.

With limited resources, how do agencies partnering with volunteers choose an approach that combines the right mix of data and tools to provide insight relevant to your organization? And where is it going to come from?

This year's Volunteer Management Hybrid Conference will focus on equipping leaders of volunteers with skills to determine what data is useful and how to tell impactful stories using different tools and technologies.

We are pleased to announce our speakers for this years Volunteer Management Hybrid Conference.
  • Veronica Deally - Why Volunteers Deserve Their Own Annual Report
  • Adam Shilling – What’s In It For Them?” Persuading Leaders and Decisions Makers
  • Maura Fitzpatrick – Positioning Yourself as the Expert and Communicating with Impact and Confidence
  • Tony Goodrow – The Relative Impact Model for Measuring the ROI of Volunteer Engagement
Our current streaming event will consist of four 20 minute presentations, local discussion in smaller groups, followed by a moderated discussion with the other presenters (think Ted talk meets late night tv), including responding to questions from the audience.

The broadcast will be streamed live in the United States and Canada, with the likelihood of an audience of 1000 or more.  In order to participate, you will need an internet connection strong enough to handle audio/video streaming and adequate computer or external speakers.

You can learn more about the conference by visiting the main conference website.

National Networks COP:
Those working at a national level face different issues than those operating on a local or regional level. Often national level leaders are engaged in big picture, strategic or policy decision-making. Sometimes those operating at a national level don’t work directly with volunteers, but rather help empower others in their organizations who do. Join the discussion to connect and learn from others working nationally. We invite anyone looking to brainstorm around the unique issues facing volunteer leaders on a national level.  This COP group will be a chance to network, share expertise, ask questions, and solve problems with your peers.

Join Jennifer Bennett, CVA from VolunteerMatch and Faiza Venzant, CVA from CCVA in this free, special 90 minute workshop as they discuss the role and application of ethics in volunteer engagement!

Am I Making the Right Decision? The Role of Ethics in Volunteer Engagement

We all encounter ethical dilemmas in our daily work with and for community, but rarely do organizations focus on ethics related to volunteer engagement. This session provides an opportunity for practitioners to understand the difference between personal, organizational and professional ethics. The core values and principles identified by the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration (CCVA) will be shared. Participants will learn a process for ethical decision-making that can be applied in any situation, and then practice this using real-life scenarios related to volunteers. Finally, several specific strategies will be offered for increasing awareness of ethics within an organization and helping both volunteers and staff become more effective at handling ethical dilemmas.

Register here.
