Take the next step in your career as a leader of volunteers and become certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA).

Leaders in non-profit organizations and community groups increasingly understand that volunteers can be a critical resource for delivering on a mission. Effective people management and community engagement is imperative – whether they be paid or unpaid. As a result, employers expect that those individuals tasked with mobilizing and coordinating volunteer engagement demonstrate a thorough knowledge of effective practices and an understanding of how to apply that knowledge in support of real-world organizational priorities.

Certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA) is an international professional certification in the field of volunteer resources management

In this session, you will learn about the CCVA, why certification may be right to you, how the exam is created, what the application, preparation, and certification process is, and when you will be ready.

Introduction to Service Enterprise - Free to all attendees

Reflect on organizations that are leveraging volunteers in innovative and impactful ways, seem to have a closet of volunteers at the ready, and well-resourced volunteer engagement strategies. I am betting that they aren’t having one person in a back office who is the only person working with volunteers. I am confident that they have an organizational culture that sees volunteers as a key piece of their human capital. They most likely collaborate with volunteers and clients to design needs-based roles that complement and empower staff and volunteers alike to deliver their social mission.

If you want to learn how you can help your organization take its strong volunteer engagement practices and program to the next level and infuse effective and efficient volunteer engagement into the culture of your organization check out our December AL!VE Academy and learn more about Service Enterprise!

After this session, you will know …
  • Key characteristics of organizations that operate as Service Enterprises
  • How you can bring the Service Enterprise Program to your community and organization
  • Why the Service Enterprise Program isn’t a volunteer management training, but an organizational change management program
About our Presenter:
Kayla Paulson, CVA
Kayla is an experienced human capital engagement professional and trainer with a demonstrated history of working in non-profit organization change management, volunteer engagement, training, marketing, business to business sales, program management, strategic planning, and facilitation.

Kayla serves as the Administrator for AL!VE's Service Enterprise Program and is always looking for ways to empower organizations to fully harness the capabilities of their human capital (both paid and unpaid) to achieve their mission.

AL!VE Book Club COP:  The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace by Gary Chapman and Paul White

The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace book discussion COP open to all AL!VE members who value the opportunity to continuously learn and develop their knowledge around volunteer management topics.

The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace applies the love language concept to the workplace. This book helps supervisors and managers effectively communicate appreciation and encouragement to their employees, resulting in higher levels of job satisfaction, healthier relationships between managers and employees, and decreased cases of burnout.

Participation in the group offers members the following opportunities:
  • learn new concepts from people outside of their organization and think about how to apply them in their volunteer management work
  • learn from within as they meet and connect with other colleagues and share their perspective on a diverse set of topics
  • build camaraderie and teamwork among other Al!ve members
  • create shared language that make the application of the ideas easier in our work
It is recommended that participants read the book in its entirety before the first meeting and revisit chapters to take part in the bi-weekly discussion. Each participant will be responsible for purchasing the book on their own.  Please try to purchase the version of the book with copyright 2019.  It is important to purchase the book new because there is a code for an on-line Motivating by Appreciation (MBA) inventory assessment that you will take.
