July AL!VE Academy: Addressing Mental Health and Ending Stigma in the Workplace:
Taking the Next Step, Moving from Awareness to Action!

Presented by Ian Adair

July 10, 2 PM Eastern - 60 minutes

The pandemic has exacerbated mental health issues in the U.S. at an astonishing rate, with a swell of stress and anxiety that has consistently worsened since spring 2020. While there is much to be optimistic about right now, we’ll be coping with the emotional and mental fallout from COVID will continue for years to come. Now, more than ever, it’s essential to educate our employees and volunteers about mental health resources and the importance of mental health and wellness. The goal for leaders should be to promote the acceptance and inclusion of those dealing with a mental health issue by improving support systems, spreading awareness, and creating a safe environment for discussion to take place.
Learning Objectives
This presentation will examine:
  • The impact of mental health on the workforce
  • How mental health impacts every aspect of an organization
  • How leaders can cultivate an environment of acceptance and inclusion to support employee and volunteer wellness and mental health
  • How to cultivate supportive environments for discussion, education, and disclosure of a mental health challenges to take place
  • How to utilize the three focus areas of mental health awareness, wellness, and recognition programs in your strategy
About our Presenter:

Take the next step in your career as a leader of volunteers and become certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA).

Leaders in non-profit organizations and community groups increasingly understand that volunteers can be a critical resource for delivering on a mission. Effective people management and community engagement is imperative – whether they be paid or unpaid. As a result, employers expect that those individuals tasked with mobilizing and coordinating volunteer engagement demonstrate a thorough knowledge of effective practices and an understanding of how to apply that knowledge in support of real-world organizational priorities.

Certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA) is an international professional certification in the field of volunteer resources management
In this session, you will learn about the CCVA, why certification may be right to you, how the exam is created, what the application, preparation, and certification process is, and when you will be ready.

AL!VE Community of Practice - Mental Health COP

July 13, October 11, January 11 * date change *, 2024,  April 13 2024

Each year millions of Americans with mental illness struggle to find mental health care. Despite the passage of the Mental Health Parity and Addictions Equity Act of 2008, significant barriers remain which keep many Americans from accessing mental health treatment and support. As individuals struggle to access care, a common form of support many turn to are community based or national short term services such as crisis hotlines. With the existence of organizations like The Crisis Text Line and 988, the growth of these platforms and the increasing supply and demand of volunteers to help staff the lines has created a need for professional staff to oversee quickly scaling volunteer bases that are at risk for burnout and tertiary trauma as a result of exposure to graphic and intense feelings of suicide, among other things. Despite these risks, the need and desire to hold space for those in crisis, has created a need for volunteer engagement professionals to navigate creating engagement and community for these amazing volunteers.

Through connection and an open forum, we will discuss how we can best support volunteers in the mental health field in the hopes of creating sustainable and healthy volunteer experiences.

*note* When you register, you will be automatically be registered for all the future COP dates (listed below) and monthly reminders will be sent - the COP will use the same zoom link.
