Take the next step in your career as a leader of volunteers and become certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA).

Leaders in non-profit organizations and community groups increasingly understand that volunteers can be a critical resource for delivering on a mission. Effective people management and community engagement is imperative – whether they be paid or unpaid. As a result, employers expect that those individuals tasked with mobilizing and coordinating volunteer engagement demonstrate a thorough knowledge of effective practices and an understanding of how to apply that knowledge in support of real-world organizational priorities.

Certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA) is an international professional certification in the field of volunteer resources management
In this session, you will learn about the CCVA, why certification may be right to you, how the exam is created, what the application, preparation, and certification process is, and when you will be ready.

November AL!VE Academy:  Hidden Biases in Volunteer Engagement
While we may say we want greater diversity and inclusion in our volunteer programs, our actions may not always support that vision. Hidden Biases in Volunteer Management allow participants to reflect on the ways we -- as leaders of volunteer programs -- can discover, face and fight hidden biases in our volunteer program’s practices, procedures and policies. We will reflect on the established structures of our sector and the volunteer programs that may unintentionally be less than welcoming. While this webinar will not solve structural racism and unconscious bias in an hour, we will provide a safe space for volunteer directors, managers, or coordinators to reflect on their own volunteer program and how we can best make a difference.

Presented by Susan Sanow, CVA
Susan Sanow, CVA, is the Senior Manager, Volunteer Management Education at Volunteer Fairfax (Fairfax, Virginia). She leads the volunteer management educational programming including webinars, roundtables, book clubs and the area’s Civic Circle Cohort. Susan is an experienced meeting facilitator and trainer in nonprofit management and volunteer management. She has presented educational programs in the local area, statewide conferences and at national meetings. Susan holds a B.S. in Consumer-Community Services from Michigan State University. She became a Certified Volunteer Administrator in 2020 and joined the board of the Northern Virginia Association of Volunteer Administrators in 2021. In 2022, Susan was named an Exemplary Leader in Volunteer Engagement by the Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement (AL!VE).

AL!VE Academy Webinars on any DEAI topic are free for everyone. The general public is welcome to attend, and will receive a copy of the slide deck, recording, and attendance certificate upon request.
