Certified Volunteer Leader Day is Coming!

Announces the approaching date of Certified Volunteer Leader Day on 25 March, recognizing Volunteer Management Professionals who have attained and maintained certification to document their advanced skills in the field.

Certified Volunteer Leaders - get ready to celebrate… you.

As those in healthcare know, there’s Nurses Week in May. But there’s also Certified Nurses Day annually on 19 March, a day set aside to “acknowledge nurses who have earned and maintain the highest credentials in their specialty.”

As all of us in volunteer leadership know, we often need to make our own rainbows. To be clear, we are not volunteers, so Volunteer Week is a celebration of the people we lead, not us. And yes, there’s International Volunteer Leaders Day in November, but what about a day set aside to “acknowledge volunteer leaders who have earned and maintain the highest credentials in their specialty”? When do we get celebrated for going above the baseline? When do we promote raising the members of our profession, and in doing so, ourselves?

That’s what Certified Volunteer Leader Day is all about. Certified Volunteer Leader Day celebrates volunteer leadership figures who have taken that step upward, proven their skills, and put in the energy and effort to become more, earning and maintaining their credentials. Because ‘C’, the first letter in ‘Certified,' is the third letter of the alphabet, and because ‘V’, the first letter in ‘Volunteer,’ is the twenty-second letter of the alphabet, and because Tuesday is associated to ‘Giving Tuesday’ (the Tuesday after Thanksgiving) and we’re all about giving, Certified Volunteer Leader Day is always the Tuesday closest to the 22nd day of the 3rd month, or in the case of this year, 25 March 2025. The permanent placement on a Tuesday ensures that the celebration of volunteer leaders is never relegated to a weekend.

Certified Volunteer Leader Day is an opportunity to recognize those who have achieved their designation (e.g. CVA, CVM, CAVS, CDVS) and a day to encourage those who have not yet earned their marks to take the next step in their career. It’s a day to promote our opportunities… and ourselves.

With three weeks to go, celebrate it. Share it. Post it. Flaunt it. If we want the world to celebrate the skills we have, let’s be leading the cheer.
