AL!VE remains committed to advocating for policies and funding that strengthen volunteer engagement and the organizations that make service possible. One important opportunity right now is a national effort to increase funding for the Volunteer Generation Fund, a critical resource that supports volunteer infrastructure across the country. We encourage our members and partners to consider joining this collective advocacy effort.

The States for Service Coalition, the policy arm of America’s Service Commissions, is organizing an organizational sign-on letter asking Congress to appropriate $30 million for the Volunteer Generation Fund (VGF) in FY27. This is the fifth sign-on letter organized for VGF since it was created in 2009 as part of the Serve America Act.

The Volunteer Generation Fund is the only federal-level funding for volunteer engagement, and it has a tremendous opportunity to expand to support volunteer infrastructure throughout the country, especially as the country celebrates its 250th anniversary with increased calls for service and volunteerism in local communities.

We are asking organizations to sign on to the letter (read the text of the letter) and to share this opportunity with your own networks. Our hope is that increasing funding to $30 million will enable every state service commission to access VGF to support volunteer engagement in their state/territory and have a robust competitive pool of funding for eligible entities to apply to. The finished letter will be circulated to the House and Senate Appropriations Committee and to individual Members of Congress.

Complete this brief form by 5pm ET on March 25 to sign on to the letter.
