Event Description
2022 Book Club COP begins May 9, 2022 and runs for seven weeks. This discussion group is designed for those who can attend all sessions, not on a drop in basis and will be facilitated by Darlene Laird, CVA, AL!VE Board Member and Skilled Volunteer Strategy and Engagement Manager for Habitat for Humanity International.

The Power of Moments: Why Certain Experiences Have Extraordinary Impact by Chip Heath & Dan Heath is a book discussion COP and is open to all AL!VE   members who value the opportunity to continuously learn and develop their knowledge around volunteer management topics.
The book “explores why certain brief experiences can jolt us and elevate us and change us – and how we can learn to create such extraordinary moments in our life and work.”  We will reflect upon ways we can use the use the elements of defining moments to create meaningful volunteer experiences and with an eye toward our rapidly changing and more tech-dependent world.
Participation in the book club offers members the following opportunities:
  • Learn new concepts from people outside of their organization and think about how to apply them in their volunteer management work.
  • Learn from within as they meet and connect with other colleagues and share their perspective on a diverse set of topics .
  • Build camaraderie and teamwork among other AL!VE members.
  • Create shared language that make the application of the ideas easier in our work.
It is recommended that participants read the book in its entirety before the first meeting and revisit chapters to take part in the bi-weekly discussion. Each participant will be responsible for purchasing the book on their own.  This discussion group is designed for those who can attend all sessions, not on a drop in basis.
