Take the next step in your career as a leader of volunteers and become certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA).

Leaders in non-profit organizations and community groups increasingly understand that volunteers can be a critical resource for delivering on a mission. Effective people management and community engagement is imperative – whether they be paid or unpaid. As a result, employers expect that those individuals tasked with mobilizing and coordinating volunteer engagement demonstrate a thorough knowledge of effective practices and an understanding of how to apply that knowledge in support of real-world organizational priorities.

AL!VE Community of Practice - Mental Health COP

July 13, October 11, January 11 * date change *, 2024,  April 13 2024

Each year millions of Americans with mental illness struggle to find mental health care. Despite the passage of the Mental Health Parity and Addictions Equity Act of 2008, significant barriers remain which keep many Americans from accessing mental health treatment and support. As individuals struggle to access care, a common form of support many turn to are community based or national short term services such as crisis hotlines. With the existence of organizations like The Crisis Text Line and 988, the growth of these platforms and the increasing supply and demand of volunteers to help staff the lines has created a need for professional staff to oversee quickly scaling volunteer bases that are at risk for burnout and tertiary trauma as a result of exposure to graphic and intense feelings of suicide, among other things. Despite these risks, the need and desire to hold space for those in crisis, has created a need for volunteer engagement professionals to navigate creating engagement and community for these amazing volunteers.

Through connection and an open forum, we will discuss how we can best support volunteers in the mental health field in the hopes of creating sustainable and healthy volunteer experiences.

*note* When you register, you will be automatically be registered for all the future COP dates (listed below) and monthly reminders will be sent - the COP will use the same zoom link.

Restorative practices works proactively to create a safer social climate by strengthening relationships and building community, while holding people accountable for their choices. This workshop will explore the basic framework of restorative practices, how to incorporate the ideals into the decision making process and ways to integrate restorative practices trauma informed approaches to create a community of care.

National Networks COP:
Those working at a national level face different issues than those operating on a local or regional level. Often national level leaders are engaged in big picture, strategic or policy decision-making. Sometimes those operating at a national level don’t work directly with volunteers, but rather help empower others in their organizations who do. Join the discussion to connect and learn from others working nationally. We invite anyone looking to brainstorm around the unique issues facing volunteer leaders on a national level.  This COP group will be a chance to network, share expertise, ask questions, and solve problems with your peers.
