MAVA Volunteer Engagement Leadership Conference
Volunteerism Without Borders
June 11-12, 2026
9:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Volunteerism isn’t all about formally working with an organization, counting volunteer hours, or only showing up if there’s a sign up form - it’s about people helping each other to make our communities stronger, better, and more vibrant.
The landscape of service is shifting beneath our feet. Today’s volunteers aren't just looking for "roles"—they are looking for meaningful impact. They are moving at the speed of their digital lives, their neighborhoods, and their personal values.
This conference is a space for leaders, disruptors, and community builders who have moved beyond the "traditional" to master the non-traditional. Whether it’s cracking the code on micro-volunteering, scaling a movement through decentralized leadership, or leveraging technology to meet the community in real-time, this is YOUR space.
This year's conference sessions will be geared towards topics like:
- The On-Demand Volunteer: Strategies for episodic and task-based service that fits into busy modern schedules.
- Leading at Community Speed: How to pivot organizational structures to support rapid-response and informal helping.
- The Tech-Enabled Connection: Utilizing AI, mobile platforms, and digital matching to reduce barriers to entry.
- Equity & Mutual Aid: Moving from "charity" models to community-led movements and neighbor-to-neighbor support.
In this 30 minute call, we will highlight:
- Member benefits
- Resources & where to find them
- Association goals for 2026
- Discuss what's happening in the field on a regional or national level
- Bring your own topic - have a question you need to discuss? We're happy to connect.
Leaders in non-profit organizations and community groups increasingly understand that volunteers can be a critical resource for delivering on a mission. Effective people management and community engagement is imperative – whether they be paid or unpaid. As a result, employers expect that those individuals tasked with mobilizing and coordinating volunteer engagement demonstrate a thorough knowledge of effective practices and an understanding of how to apply that knowledge in support of real-world organizational priorities.
Attending conferences can be career-changing, but only if you’re intentional about how you show up, engage, and follow through. This interactive AL!VE Academy will equip volunteer engagement professionals with practical strategies to maximize conferences, from local workshops to national gatherings like the Points of Light Conference. Participants will learn how to prepare, network authentically, build visibility, and turn conference moments into long-term career growth, whether in-person or virtual.
