The Benefits of Engaging Volunteers with Disabilities - Presented by Shelli Beck, CVA
Thursday, June 6 at 3 Pm Eastern for 90 minutes

It is estimated that approximately 15% of the US population is living with a disability.  These disabilities range from visual, ambulatory, auditory, cognitive and more.  Is your volunteer program inclusive of these potential volunteers?  In this session we will discuss some steps to take to help a volunteer with a disability engage in your community.  This AL!VE Academy will include a short work session, engaging conversation and tips to be more inclusive.

About our Presenter:

Shelli Beck, CVA - Director of Volunteer Services at Lyngblomsten

Shelli Beck was introduced to volunteer management as a volunteer introducing volunteerism to the small private school that her children attended. Then she began an AmeriCorps position with Goodwill/Easter Seals as a Volunteer Coordinator.

Over the years she has turned a very part-time Volunteer Coordinator role at Lyngblomsten into a full-time Director level position. Shelli has been a staple of volunteer engagement in Minnesota helping deliver Service Enterprise training, having served as a Conference Chair and Board Member for MAVA, and actively connected with her local peers.

AL!VE Academy Webinars on any DEAI topic are free for everyone. The general public is welcome to attend, and will receive a copy of the slide deck, recording, and attendance certificate upon request. If you registered as a Local association member, please be sure you have listed your local association's acronym or name in the registration. Learn more about AL!VE membership at our website.

Take the next step in your career as a leader of volunteers and become certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA).

Leaders in non-profit organizations and community groups increasingly understand that volunteers can be a critical resource for delivering on a mission. Effective people management and community engagement is imperative – whether they be paid or unpaid. As a result, employers expect that those individuals tasked with mobilizing and coordinating volunteer engagement demonstrate a thorough knowledge of effective practices and an understanding of how to apply that knowledge in support of real-world organizational priorities.
